FOR KONA FROM KONA

For Kona From Kona allows students from Hawaii to pursue a higher education after high school. It is an opportunity to allow graduating soccer players to dream beyond the usual.

  • Established in 2013 by Summer Chinen, the “For Kona From Kona Soccer Scholarship Fund” is means for graduating soccer player from the island of Hawaii to fulfill their dreams of attending college.

    The “For Kona Soccer From Kona Scholarship Fund”, is a $500 award to selected incoming college freshman from West Hawaii High Schools. Applicants shall be required to be high school graduates during the current academic year and be former soccer players from their perspective high schools.

  • Two awards are given per year: one in preparation for the start of the school year and in the fall, and another midway through the school year during the holiday season. For the next 4 years of their college education.

  • Applicants for the “For Kona From Kona Soccer Scholarship Fund,” must plan to enroll during the current academic year in a four-year college or university. Applicants must also submit a two-part essay focusing on:

    Part (1): how soccer has motivated them in life and how it has challenged them to pursue a higher education, and,

    Part (2): focuses on what is the applicant’s commitment to being a positive influence to the West Hawaii Community.

    **Applicants cannot be awarded twice within the same school year, but are free to re- apply the following year.

  • Receiving applications starting from January 1st and closing April 18th of every year.

    Scholarship recipients will be announced May 1st of every year.

  • Applications can be submitted via email or PO box.
