Some words from our alumni athletes

BRAD UEMOTO | 1997 KHS Graduate | Konawaena Football Varsity Head Coach

"I believe that a new weight room would be a huge benefit to our student athletes. It would be a tool for our athletes to benefit from off the field training and the results that come with weight training."

AUSTIN EWING | 2018 KHS Graduate | Southern Utah University

"A weight room would have been super helpful for our football team and it will benefit the future teams if we can get a good weight room. After a year in college I really understand how helpful it can really be. We use it every day and it’s a really good place for team bonding at team lifts. It obviously makes us stronger but it also becomes a place where teammates encourage each other and form stronger bonds."

TAIANA TOLLESON | 2015 KHS Graduate | Vanderbilt University

"It was hard to be motivated to go into the weight room because it lacked a lot of the necessary equipment that is needed for what my college workout packets was asking of me. As I was preparing for college soccer my senior year I would just go to Coach Guy’s house every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and use his homemade gym in his backyard because it provided me with enough of the equipment I needed in a lot bigger of a space as well. Had Konawaena had a proper weight room as I was preparing to go to college and before I even arrived on Vanderbilt University’s campus I know for a fact I would have been more prepared to take on the demands of a Division 1 collegiate athlete and would have had an even better opportunity to play a bigger role on the field a lot sooner."

ISAIAH CHINEN | 2012 KHS Graduate | Seattle Saracens Rugby

"I worked out in the weight room only a handful of times over the years, I say less than 20 times over four years. I worked out at pacific island fitness downtown. I definitely think it would have helped accelerate my growth as an athlete by having the proper equipment. Would have been nice to train in the weight room with the team and push each other."

KOLTEN YAMAGUCHI | 2012 KHS Graduate | Pepperdine University

"If Konawaena had a proper weight room, I would have been a completely different player. My coordination and natural ability only got me so far. If I was able to develop on top of my natural foundation more effectively, I would have been much more prepared for college ball. Not only would I have access to better equipment, I would have been incentivized to work out more often because I would have known that each workout would be more productive."
